01 What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on your device when you visit. They help websites work properly, remember your preferences, and understand how people use the site.

Similar technologies, such as local storage, pixels and embedded scripts, do much the same job, and everything said here applies to those too. Cookies can be set by the site you are visiting, or by another company whose content is embedded in the page. The second kind are called third-party cookies.

02 How we use cookies

Cookies fall into three categories on most websites. Here is where this one stands on each. It is a short list, because this site sets very few.

Strictly necessary cookies Always on

These are set by WordPress, the software the site runs on, and are required for it to function. They do not track you, and they store no personal data of their own.

Our contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which tells a person filling in the form apart from an automated script. It is not loaded when you open the page: it is fetched only once you start writing a message, and only on that one page. At that point Google may set cookies and will receive your IP address. Session and security cookies: used to keep the site working correctly and to protect forms against automated abuse.
Login cookies: set only for clinic staff signing in to manage the website. They are never set for ordinary visitors.

Analytics cookies Off until you allow it

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful, so we know what to improve. It is not loaded at all until you switch this category on: reject it, or simply leave it off, and nothing is requested from Google and no analytics cookie is set.

We do not use it to identify you, and we do not share what it collects with anyone for advertising. Google’s own use of the data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Marketing and embedded content Off until you allow it

We run no advertising or remarketing cookies, and there are no Facebook, Instagram or TikTok tracking pixels on this site. Our links to social media are ordinary links, and nothing is loaded from those platforms unless you click through.

What this category does cover today is the Google map on our Contact page. Loading it would let Google set cookies on your device and would give Google your IP address, so we do not load it at all until you allow this category. Until then you see a placeholder with our address and a button to load the map just that once.

Preference cookies Not in use

These would remember choices you make about how the site looks or behaves. Nothing on this site sets one today; the category exists so that anything of the kind we add later has to be switched on by you first.

03 What we don’t do

We do not use cookies to:

collect personally identifiable information
collect any sensitive or medical information
pass your data to third parties for advertising
pay sales commissions
follow you around other websites

04 The cookies this site can set

In full, and in plain terms. Anything not on this list is not set by us.

mda_consent: set by us, and only by us. Remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner, so you are not asked on every page. Contains the categories you allowed, the date, and a random reference. Kept for six months, after which we ask again.
WordPress session and security cookies: set by the software the site runs on, to keep pages working and to protect forms against automated abuse. Not set for ordinary browsing in most cases, and never used for tracking.
wordpress_logged_in_*: set only when a member of clinic staff signs in to manage the website. Never set for visitors.
woocommerce_* and wp_woocommerce_session_*: set by the shop software the theme ships with, and only if a basket is ever used. Nothing is sold through this site today, so in normal use these are not set.
Google cookies (NID and similar): set by Google, not by us, and only if you allow the map on the Contact page to load or press the button to load it once. We cannot read them.
_ga and _ga_*: set by Google Analytics, and only if you allow the analytics category. They tell repeat visits apart from new ones without identifying you. Kept for up to two years, or until you clear them.
Google reCAPTCHA cookies: set by Google, not by us, and only once you begin filling in the contact form. They are used to tell people apart from automated scripts. We cannot read them.

05 Managing your cookies

When you first arrive, a banner asks what you are happy for us to set. You can accept everything, reject everything, or open the preferences panel and choose category by category. Rejecting is a single click, exactly like accepting, and nothing optional is set unless you turn it on.

You can change your mind at any time by pressing Cookie Settings in the footer of any page. Your choice is stored for six months, after which we ask again. If we change what the categories cover, we ask again straight away.

You can also view, block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block all cookies, parts of this and most other websites may not work as intended.

06 Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to it. Since we do not track visitors in the first place, there is nothing for us to switch off.

If we add anything to the website that sets new cookies, we will update this page before it goes live, and add a consent banner if the law requires one. The "last updated" date on this page shows when it was last changed.
